Plastic Recycling

Plastic recycling is highlighted in the news as being a huge problem for the world.

The UK has a range of companies who are able to recycle waste efficiently and effectively, including plastics.

Here is an outline of the most common type of plastics.

LDPE – the first type of plastic to be developed. This is used for items such as plastic bags, cereal box liners and plastic wrapping. It can be recycled but not as easily as the more rigid plastics. I recently read an article on Linkedin, where a UK company is able to use waste plastics for new hard wearing road surfaces. This is an amazing way of reducing our plastic waste and providing a usable product.

HDPE – this type of plastic is used more commonly for rigid plastic products. These would items like food storage trays and water bottles. It is long lasting and easy to mould. There are a number of recycling plants in the UK for this type of plastic. These plants sort, chip and clean the HDPE, often melting it into pellets for resales. The regrind is used for a wide range of non-food products such as coat hangers and traffic cones.

PET – this is used for most drink bottles and toiletry bottles because of it is hard and is a great moisture barrier. It is also used for woven applications such as clothing and carpeting (often referred to as Polyester). When recycled it is used for vehicle upholstery, clothing such as fleece jackets and auto parts.

Within these processes, bulk bags are a great packaging to store and supply regrind and recycled plastics. Euroflex stock a standard recycling bag, along with specific customer requirements.
