Selecting the right FIBC

Getting the right bag is important and needs to be considered with care.

A lot of people associate bulk bags with the builder bags seen on many roadsides and building sites in the UK, and around the world. But each application is different and as such the right FIBC needs to be used. Here are some to consider when looking at the style for your product.

1. Weight of product to be contained in the bag.

2. The required volume

3. Bulk density

4. Flow characteristics (does it flow well or clump)

5. Degree of aeration

6. Particle size and shape (may need sift proof seams)

7. Compatibility with materials used to construct the bulk bags (Woven PP)

8. Fill temperature

   9.  Does it need to be food grade or UN approved?

Other things to consider are:-

The method of filling, handling, transporting, storage and discharge of the product need to be considered, in addition to the above.

The number of trips required the number of times the bag will be lifted on each trip and the environmental conditions likely to be encountered or the bag stored in.

FIBCs that have been obtained second hand and those not designed specifically for the product to be contained should not be used without reference to the manufacturer.
